Baptism

“God desires life for us and all creation. In baptism, God washes us and makes us entirely new people. God also gives us a new family, the church, and gives us our best model for being together as people through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we practice this new way of being together every day. ” (Introduction to the Sacrament of Baptism.)

Basics

At WPLC we welcome all people, regardless of membership status, to God’s holy waters. We believe that baptism is the entryway into the Christian family and one of two sacraments in the Lutheran church. Baptism is appropriate for children as well as adults.

Availablity

We generally schedule each baptism individually on its own Sunday. Baptisms are typically available year round, except during the season of Lent (which falls in February, March, and sometimes April, depending on the year).

Scheduling

The first step toward a baptism is for the parents/guardians of the child or the adult baptismal candidate to meet with the pastor for a conversation. You can find a time to meet with Pastor Jason here or let us know you’re interested by this form. During this chat, we will discuss the importance of baptism, the logistics of the day, talk about which Sunday works best, and answer all of your questions.

If you’d like to reserve a Sunday before attending the class, please contact Pastor Jason at pastor@wickerparklutheran.org or 773-276-0263 for available dates. We look forward to accompanying you through this important transition.
