Baptism

“In holy baptism the triune God delivers us from the forces of evil, puts our sinful self to death, gives us new birth, adopts us as children, and makes us members of the body of Christ, the church” (Evangelical Lutheran Worship: Introduction to Baptism).

Here at WPLC we welcome all people, regardless of membership status, to the waters of baptism. We believe that baptism is the entryway into the Christian family and one of two sacraments in the Lutheran church. Baptism is appropriate for children as well as adults.

We generally schedule each baptism individually on its own Sunday. Baptisms are typically available year round, except during the season of Lent (which falls in February, March, and sometimes April, depending on the year).

The first step toward a baptism is for the parents/guardians of the child or the adult baptismal candidate to meet with the pastor for a baptism conversation. Our next dates for a baptism conversation is Sunday, October 9 from 1-2:30 p.m. Click here to RSVP to a class. During the conversation, we will discuss the importance of baptism, the logistics of the baptismal day, talk about which Sunday works best, and answer any questions.

If you’d like to reserve a Sunday before attending the class, please contact Pastor Jason at pastor@wickerparklutheran.org or 773-276-0263 for available dates. We look forward to accompanying you through this important transition.
