Fourth Sunday of Advent
Tomorrow is Christmas Eve, and Christmas day will follow. In the days ahead, some of us will be with our families of origin, which means that Aunt Barb will fall asleep in a chair, your cousin will try to get you into a pyramid scheme, and grandpa will probably say something racist. For others, you might expect Christmas movies and delivered meals as you celebrate. Based on your knowledge and experience, you can roughly predict the days ahead…
First Sunday of Advent
“How do you know that Christmas is near? For some, it’s the first snow storm and pulling out the winter coat. For others, it’s the transition from pumpkin spice to peppermint. Still others, know it’s near when holiday music is played, the garland is hung, and presents are wrapped. Well, in today’s gospel, Jesus also speaks of signs. Indicators in the sky, sea, and, even, the psyche. Fainting from fear, disturbances in the heavens, and blooming fig trees.”
Twenty Sixth Sunday After Pentecost
Friends, it may feel like an ending but our God reminds us it’s the beginning of something new. It’s the beginning of our call to live out our baptism. It’s a beginning that recalls God’s love as God suffered by the hands of a world that couldn’t acknowledge truth. It’s the beginning of a story where we, as people of faith, walk together as pilgrims – where we journey into a world to bring a new reality built on God’s justice, peace, and love. Indeed, it’s only the beginning….
